Set up HU email
Your HU email address looks like first.last@hu-berlin.de or account@hu-berlin.de. You can use webmail or configure your own client – both work.
| Server | Port | Encryption | |
|---|---|---|---|
| IMAP (incoming) | mailbox.cms.hu-berlin.de | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| SMTP (outgoing) | mailhost.cms.hu-berlin.de | 587 | STARTTLS |
Username: HU account (short form, without @hu-berlin.de) – password: your HU-account password.
In the browser, no setup
Works anywhere. Plenty for most students.
Open-source client, all platforms
-
Add account
Menu → Settings → Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account.
-
Name, address, password
Enter your full name, HU email address and password, then Continue. Auto-config usually finds the HU servers.
-
If auto-config fails
Set manually – use the values in the hero box above. Encryption is required.
On Mac, iPhone and iPad
- System Settings → Internet Accounts (Mac) or Mail → Accounts (iOS) → Add Other Account
- Pick Mail Account → IMAP
- Enter email and password, then add the server addresses from the hero box manually
- Enable SSL/TLS for both servers, authentication "Password"
For staff with Office 365
Outlook normally configures itself once you enter your HU email and password. If asked, pick IMAP (not "Microsoft Exchange") – HU email is not on an Exchange server.
Which email address is yours?
Default is first.last@hu-berlin.de, the form account@hu-berlin.de also works.
@math.hu-berlin.de address: currently only works for holders of legacy maths accounts. No new maths accounts are being issued. In the future, the @math.hu-berlin.de address will also be available for regular HU accounts.
