(Please note that the starting times printed above are exact; you should not add 15 minutes.) This course is an introduction to pseudoholomorphic curves, covering the basic theory (nonlinear functional analytic setup, Fredholm theory and transversality, bubbling off, positivity of intersections) and a survey of applications in symplectic and contact topology (non-squeezing theorem, rational and ruled symplectic 4-manifolds, nonfillable contact 3-manifolds, Weinstein conjecture). Here is a full course description and syllabus in PDF format. Lecture NotesThe lecture notes will be the main (though not the only) text for the course, and also may contain some topics that we will not have time to cover. They are a work in progress and are currently undergoing a first major revision and expansion (indicated by the version number "2.0"). All comments, suggestions and corrections are welcome, even from interested readers who are not in the class: send comments to "my surname (at) math (dot) hu-berlin (dot) de" Update (November 9, 2010): the lecture notes for this course remain work in progress, but a presentable half-finished version has now been reorgnized into a single file and put on the arXiv. Further updates will be posted periodically on the expository section of my publications page.Announcements
